Kennedy High School Show Choir CampKennedy High School will be hosting a Show Choir Camp from June 10th-14th. Camp enrollment is open to current 5th thru 8th graders interested in show choir. Students will spend the week learning vocal parts and choreography and getting a taste of what show choir is like. You do not have to be in the Kennedy attendance area to attend. The cost is $65. Registration forms are available in the Activities Office and are due by May 27th.

Summer Camps at the Ceramics CenterAttention students who are looking for things to do this summer. Check out the opportunities at the Ceramics Center. 7 different classes are being offers for grades 5-8. Flyers are in the Activities Office with more info.

Washington High School's 5K Run/Walk for the KidsWashington High School Run for the Kids 5K Run/Walk Sunday, May 19th at 8 A.M. Downtown Cedar Rapids Flyers about this race can be picked up in the Activities Office. (Rm 300) Race Info: Race will start at the south end of the parking lot on the corner of 8th Ave. SE and the river (2nd St.), across from the Courthouse (Cedar Valley Nature Trail) Packet Pick-up: Packet pickup will be on Friday, May 17th in the Washington High School cafeteria from 3-4pm or Sunday, May 19th on site starting at 6am Registration: Register online, drop off in room 119, or send via mail by May 3rd to be guaranteed a T-Shirt. Strength and Power Development for incoming Kennedy athletes KENNEDY HIGH SCHOOL SUMMER STRENGTH AND POWER DEVELOPMENT CAMP Grades 9 – 12 Wednesday, June 5 Thru Friday, August 9 Strength and Power Development: MALE ATHLETES: Monday, Wednesday, Friday SESSION 1: 6:30 AM – 7:45 AM (VARSITY FOOTBALL) SESSION 2: 7:30 AM – 8:30 AM (SOPHOMORE FOOTBALL) SESSION 3: 8:15 AM – 9:15 AM (ALL SPORTS) SESSION 4: 3:00 PM – 5:00 PM Monday, Wednesday, Thursday (FRESHMAN FOOTBALL) FEMALE ATHLETES: Tuesday and Thursday – 7:00 AM – 9:00 AM PURPOSE To be instructed on and perform drills and lifts to enhance athletic performance. FORMAT All participants will take part in a structured program that consists flexibility, core development, plyometrics, foot quickness, and a ground based, multi-joint, personalized functional strength training program. DRESS All students using our facility must be dressed in tennis shoes, shorts or sweat pants, and a t-shirt or tank top. Normal weight room rules apply and will be enforced. COST/REGISTRATION The cost of the camp is $65.00. This will include a camp T-shirt. Kennedy Wrestling Kennedy Wrestling Hello, this is Dennis Hynek, head wrestling coach at CR Kennedy. We are excited to offer future Cougars the opportunity to train with us during the summer. Our philosophy of pinning makes practices exciting and fun. We would love to have you be a part of this! Upcoming Freshmen: We start weight training on Monday May 6th from 5:30-6:15pm. We use this time to teach you the fundamentals of lifting weights so you can begin the lifting program this summer. See information on weight training sheet. We also offer workouts with our varsity team on Mondays and Wednesdays this summer. These workouts are free and extremely beneficial! See times on the calendars. Upcoming 7th and 8th graders: Nick LeClere, former 2 time NCAA finalist, runs our youth program and will be doing clinics this summer. See information on the LeClere Cougars handout. In just his first year this winter, he had 2 aau state finalists and 3 aau state placewinners. Seriously think about attending this, this summer! Girls Basketball CampWarrior Women’s Summer Basketball Camp June 10-June 13 9:30-12:00 noon (entering grades 8-12) 1:00-3:30 P.M. (grades entering 4-7) Cost: $40 Checks payable to Frank Howell This camp will cover the fundamentals of the game, and the values of the game. Warrior offenses and defenses will be taught during this week and good habits will be established.

FLAPCo AuditionsFranklin show choir auditions will take place next week on Tuesday, May 21st and Wednesday, May 22nd from 3-5 p.m. This time is reserved for incoming 7th/8th grade students. Students will learn choreography and vocal parts at the audition. Sign up outside of the choir room for one of these days and plan on staying for the full 2 hours. Please see Mrs. Fitzgerald with questions.

Qualify for the state tournament, compete for scholarships, trophies and medals Date: Wednesday, June 19, 2013 Times: 11 am registration, 12 Noon tee times Location: Twin Pines Golf Course Who’s eligible: Boys and girls ages 10-17 Age Groups: 10-11, 12-13, 14-15, 16-17 NOTE: First and second place finishers qualify for State tournament at Perry in early August *Must be 10-17 years of age as of August 13th, 2012 *18 holes required, non-handicap *10-11 year age group requirement – 9 holes *May play complete 18 (optional) *Green fees -- $8.75 per person, paid at course on day of tournament *Complementary lunch available

Need a Summer Job?Are you 14 years old and need a summer job? Here is your chance to earn some money this summer. It is hard work but you can earn good money in a short window of time. Detasseling is the job for you. Detasseling crews are looking for responsible, prompt, and hard working individuals who are 14 or older. No question this is a tough, dirty, and sweaty job, however it could be the first job where you can demonstrate the type of worker you really are. It will look good on that first resume'. If interested please stop by the Activities Office to pick up a flyer. There will be a signup meeting 6:00 pm on the Coe College Campus (Hikcok Hall) on Wednesday, May 22nd.

Kennedy Girls Tennis CampPlayers grade 6th through 12th are invited to participate in the Kennedy Tennis Camp. This will be held from June 10th through the 14th at Kennedy HS. Please stop by the Activity Office for more information.

PACT Parent Night - Tuesday, May 21stReminder to all 6th and 7th grader PACT students and parents to attend PACT night on Tuesday night May 21st between 7:00 and 8:30. Please meet in room 430. This is your opportunity to learn more about the activities being offered next year and then to be sure to sign up online on the Franklin website for classes for next year. Any questions should be directed to Ms. Siebenga. Anyone helping present information that night needs to be here by 6:30 to help get set-up.
